Wearing White

August 3, 2016 by Liz Leave a Comment

I own one, single, solitary white dress. I have never worn said dress, possibly because I’ve never had a occasion in which a white dress was appropriate, but I have put it on shuffled around my tiny apartment at least seven times.  “The” white dress turned two years old in July.

Everyone counts birthdays for inanimate objects, right?

So I’ve been putting on this damn white dress, wandering around, sitting on the couch with a napkin folded in my lap eating chips and salsa (I live dangerously), and never making plans to go out INTO THE WORLD and do something. That’s not OK.

No, it is not imperative for me to wear this dress in public to live my best life, but it does speak to the comfort that we can lull ourselves into once we hit a certain age.

Complacence.

It happens slowly and subtly. First with a weekend to “recharge” that eventually becomes a ritual. You begin finding ways to cancel plans and hoping your significant other is also as tired as you are so you can order takeout and not put on real pants. When you do go out, you feel the quota is satisfied and you’ve earned the right to Netflix and Chill yourself for the rest of the week.

There’s no shame in wanting to “recharge” but is this living? Singledom has forced me to rethink my current situation.

I have begun the process of living again and since I have begun the process of living again I have; met people, gone on adventures, and had brunch. Big stuff. The next thing? Wear this MF dress somewhere and dance my face off.

Oh, and a red bag is ESSENTIAL.

    Shout out to this post!
I’m digging everything about it, especially the part about dancing you face off. That shit is so fucking ESSENTIAL.
That and going on adventures. Gotta do it because “winter is coming” and you don’t wanna be stuck in an airport in January because you waited too long to do something.
So kudos to you babygirl, live that shit right now.

Hell yes! I have spent too many weekends in the last year on my ass and I refuse to let my thirties slip away as easily as my twenties.

BTW your insta feed and adventurous soul is half of what inspired me to get the f* out! <3

Methinks you should wear that dress every single day for the next week. You look great!

Thanks, Paul! I thought about wearing it to work today but it didn’t feel office appropriate. Maybe I’ll throw it on and go grocery shopping tonight 😉

If grocery stores had a dress code, this would be it!

Do they not in Canada? The dress code here is business casual but an optional overcoat if your spending an inordinate amount of time in the freezer section.

Hahaha in the winter we use sleighs instead of carts, if that counts.

That does count! So did Santa get sleighs from Canada or did Canada get sleighs from Santa???

I think the sticker on them said “Made in China” so…

<3 this post! I like the reference to inanimate objects and fitting in a "recharge" weekend but not making it a habitual thing. I think I take my workday evenings for granted and should also take charge of using that time wisely. Btw I think you should do a color run or do paintball in a white dress! 😆

Hahaha A color run would be THE LAST time I would ever get to wear it so I think I will keep that idea in my back pocket. Thank for reading, Izzy 😉

I own TWO white dresses and have worn them out collectively 3 times! 😛 It’s a dangerous world out there for white dresses. Better stay at home eating chips and salsa! Happy 2nd birthday to your dress! 🙂

Haha yes! But if it’s wine stains and night club grime I’m OK with it 😉 I think I’ll be breaking this bad boy out very, very soon!

Well, with white, you can always bleach the hell out of it! 😛
