3 Reasons You Need to Get Some: Micellar Water

January 18, 2016 by Liz 23 Comments

Back in October I went to a non-fancy, bar Halloween party. You know, the kind where you drink and sweat and dance until you’re a shriveled up version of whatever you dressed up as. I went as Jem,of Jem and the Holograms, full makeup and all. Let me just say you haven’t lived until you’ve drawn giant triangles on your face with pink eyeliner and sealed it up with glitter glue.

Needless to say, this is the epitome of makeup you don’t want to sleep in.

And so 3:00 AM rolls around and it’s time for Liz to remove the layers a begin the hydration process and guess what? Someone forgot to pack any sort of face wash in her little overnight satchel. Goodie. Luckily, I had the good sense to pack the Clarisonic so with the help of some shampoo and pulsating bristles, 80% (iffy) of the makeup was removed. Better than nothing. Still not ideal.

Fast forward to the recent and my trial of Micellar Water. Man, talk about using a million cotton pads. Or maybe I just wear an obscene amount of makeup? Who knows. What I do know is that it doesn’t work for cleaning a face full of makeup, and what I discovered is how well it shows me that even my unrivaled Clarisonic doesn’t remove every speck from my face, either.

I shudder at how much makeup stayed on my face that fateful, All Hallow’s Eve.

So though I don’t use it as my sole cleansing method, I HAVE found it does a few things very, very well. I guess you could call Micellar water the perfect sidekick. A copilot. You’re new co-anchor, Veronica Corningstone.

1. Post Cleansing “Toner”

Double Clean Duo

For years I used drugstore toners full of alcohol and harsh chemicals to the detriment of my defenseless skin. It’s tough to find a toner out there sans alcohol, witch hazel, or any other plant extracts that cause inflammation. The micelles¹ are gentle and many new formulas include anti-irritant ingredients. Plus, it removes all of the leftover bits of makeup that my Clarisonic leaves behind. Mainly the nooks & crannies of the nose and eye socket. I, for one, was shocked after believing those advertisements showing it remove that glow-in-the-dark makeup so thoroughly. Not a slam. Clarisonic is still BA

Cleanse skin as usual, then follow up with a cotton pad full of Micellar Water. Gentle, clean, effective.

2. Quick Brush Cleaner-upper

Micellar Water Brush Refresh

Want to switch from deep purple to light lavender using the SAME eye shadow brush? Easy. Just spritz a bit of Micellar Water on the tip and wipe. The brush dries in no time (remember, just a spritz) and you are ready to move on to the next color without muddying your eye makeup. Add a little alcohol to the mix and this becomes a disinfectant! Also awesome if you’re on vacation and you don’t want to pack your entire brush collection.

3. Water-less Situations/Travel

Because this is a “water-less” formula that requires no rinse, I took a bottle on my last road trip. Slightly more work than makeup remover wipes, but way less irritating to my delicate, travel skin. Half-way through our 12 hour car ride I busted out my bottle and cotton pads and removed more grime than I’d like to admit. I have yet to find a makeup wipe that is as gentle as Micellar Water for a midday refresh. Those things always leave a weird film on my skin. Yeck. AND If I were ever to go camping you can bet I’d be packing some Micellar Water.

Grab a bottle at most stores that sell Garneir or Simple brand items! Or, snag some HERE through my amazon store.

I have two glorious days off this week so I will be busy trying not to freeze to death or completely shrivel up from dry forced air. Coconut oil helps. So would a trip to Florida. **Shivers and puts on a second sweater**

OOoooo and feel free to PIN things since my Pinterest button is totally functional now!

♥Liz

¹ Micelles are a type of electrically charged particle that acts as a surfactant (like many other cleansers) that combines with water and interacts with oil, cleaning the surface. Oddly enough, this is not new technology. Go figure.

I know!!! Clean brushes are everything lol! I never travel with Micellar water in a regular bottle anymore either because it’s just easier to spray the cotton pad. Last longer, too!! And thanks sweetie 💟 I am checking it out ASAP!!!
